What is the difference between a single-layer nozzle and a double-layer nozzle in a laser cutting machine?

The core difference between single-layer nozzles and double-layer nozzles lies in the gas flow design and the applicable cutting processes: The single-layer nozzle is used for nitrogen cutting of stainless steel and other precision processing, resulting in a smooth cutting surface; the double-layer nozzle is used for oxygen cutting of carbon steel, achieving high-speed and efficient cutting, but the cut surface will oxidize and turn black. Here is the specific comparison:

一. Working Principle and Structural Differences
‌1.Single-layer nozzle‌
The structure is simple, with only one gas channel, and the gas is directly ejected from the nozzle opening.
It is mostly designed in a conical shape, ensuring stable airflow, and is suitable for cutting scenarios with high precision requirements.

2.Double-layer nozzle
It consists of an inner core and an outer structure, forming two channels. The gas is first compressed by the inner core and then expands again, increasing the flow velocity.
Similar to a simplified version of a supersonic nozzle, it can reduce shock waves, increase the kinetic energy of the gas, and enhance the slag discharge capacity.

Advantage Comparison: The double-layer nozzle has a higher gas velocity, making it suitable for high-speed cutting of thick plates; the single-layer nozzle has a uniform airflow, which is beneficial for controlling the cutting quality.
